Golf Accessories & Apparel

Golf apparel and accessories are another part of the game that all golfers are interested in. Many companies sell accessories, some worthwhile and some not. This guide is intended to help you figure out what is available. Such items include everything from golf bags, golf shoes, gloves, golf umbrellas, headcovers, jackets, towels sunglasses and much more.

Austad's Golf has a great selection of golf apparel and accessories. They have all the major name brands for less.

Golf Bags

You can't play golf without a golf bag. Actually you can, but it might be difficult to carry around all your clubs on a course with your pockets packed with golf balls, tees, towels and everything else that you need. Golf bags offer you storage for all of the things that you need. For the price that you pay for a golf bag, it is hard to justify not getting one.

Travel Bags

There are many types of golf bags to choose from. Travel bags (aka carry bags) are used when you are planning on walking a course. Such bags vary in size and weight. They can be used by children and adults. The price of such bags range from cheaper bags at $50 to better equipped bags at $100 or more. If you choose this kind of bag, it is best if you buy one with a stand. These bags are made of plastic, nylon or other light materials. They have straps that allow you to carry the bag on your back. If you typically walk the course, it is best to get a bag that is waterproof. Some of these bags have dividers to seperate clubs, but keep in mind that such dividers typically add undesired weight to your bag. Carry bag storage is not as spacious as other bags, but they will store all of your clubs, plenty of balls and other accessories. If you look at the picture below, you will see two travel bags towards the back.

Cart Bags

Cart bags are intended to be carried on a golf cart. These are probably the most common bags used by golfers, considering most people ride in a cart when they play. If you only decide to buy one bag, I would recommend a travel bag. You can put these bags on the bag of a cart, but you can also carry these bags comfortably if you decide to walk the course. Most of these bags are made of nylon or leather. They have more storage and can handle such accessories as umbrellas. The picture above shows two cart bags stored on pull carts.

Tour Bags

If you are on this page, you are probably not interested in tour bags used by professionals. In any case, I would like to cover the benefits of these golf bags. Tour bags are usually made of leather or other durable materials. They are waterproof for obvious reasons and have more storage than you could possibly need. These are more expensive than the other bags already mentioned. If you are a professional, you are not concerned about the weight of the bag since caddies carry them. That's enough about these bags, so let's move on.

Pull Carts

If you decide to walk but do not want to carry your clubs, you can always consider a pull cart. These allow you to strap your bag to a base with wheels. It is not necessary to buy a pull cart unless you constantly walk when you play. You can usually rent a pull cart from pro shops.

Golf Apparel

Golf shoes are another point of interest for golfers. The comfort level of a pair of shoes can vary greatly from another. Also, your feet have a tendency to move during the backswing. The proper golf shoes will prevent you from slipping. There are many options available today. While previous designs had metal spikes, most golf cleats designed today are built with plastic spikes to minimize damage to the course.

Shop Austad's Golf Outlet Save Up to 70% OffIt is important to be comfortable when you play golf. Wearing the proper golf clothes is essential to your comfort. Many shirt fabrics are made today to absorb sweat, especially valuable in hot conditions. You should be looking to buy such shirts. Also, you don't want to be restricted during a golf swing. Make sure not to buy heavy or thick shirts that affect your swing.

Most golfers use a golf glove on their non-dominant hand (left-hand for right handed golfers). Quality golf gloves prevent the hand from slipping. Also, they prevent your hands from developing blisters. If you buy the golf club at a pro-shop or a local store, be sure to find one that fits you. Golf gloves have velcro that should reach across the top of your hand to the other piece of velcro. If you wish to buy waterproof gloves, you should look for synthetic leather. You can typically buy gloves from any pro-shops but online stores will often sell you packages for a discount.

Additional Accessories

Some additional accessories include golf tees, golf travel cases, club-cleaners, divot repair tools and ball retrievers. Most courses will provide you golf tees for free. It is best to buy some cheap tees to have in your bag just in case. These are the cheapest accessory to golf and you can buy these from any golf store. The cheaper golf tees are made of wood, but plastic tees that do not break as easily are also available. A golf travel case can be bought from many stores and will secure your bag and clubs when you are traveling. Club-cleaners clean dirt from clubheads and can typically be bought for $5 or so. If you don't use these cleaners, damp towels can also be used to clean your clubs. Just be sure to dry your clubs off to prevent rust. Divot tools repair any marks left on the green. It is consider proper etiquette to repair those marks. If the people playing in front of you didn't repair marks on the green, then it would be difficult to put through such divots. Ball retrievers are very useful for recovering golf balls from water hazards. This accessory can extend up to ten feet to recover balls from any transparent water. There are many more accessories offered to you, but these options should cover most of the necessities.
